Cape Romano
The Cape Romano Dome House was built in 1982 by Bob Lee and consisted of six dome-shaped modules on stilts. The "Domes" were located at the southern most point of Cape Romano just south of Marco Island, in the Ten Thousand Islands of Collier County, Florida. In 1992 Hurricane Andrew severely damaged the homes interior rendering it inhabitable. The home changed ownership in 2005 right before Hurricane Wilma severely damaged the foundation and eroded the coastline it once sat on. Then in 2017 Hurricane Irma struck the area collapsing the 2 westernmost domes into the ocean. In 2018 the State of Florida gained ownership of the "Domes" which would remain untouched until Hurricane Ian collapsed the remaining 4 Domes on September 28, 2022.
For me like many others, the Domes held a special place in my life. While I was late to discover them, I became hooked when I first read about these "mysterious" domes in 2007 that were being claimed by the ocean. It would be another 8 years till I could finally get my camera equipment out to the site and experience them firsthand all thanks to my friend Jeff and his family. This trip would be just the first of many as I made sure to make regular visits to the Domes and capture them in all their glory throughout their remaining years.
I invite you to browse my fine art collection below of the Iconic Cape Romano Dome Homes. If you would like to own a piece in your home that can be enjoyed for many generations to come please use the contact page or give us a call!
